Limestone Manufacturing Process and Equipment

In limestone manufacturing process, the quarrying of limestone, the main raw material used in the production of cement, is the first step. Traditionally, the limestone was obtained by blasting which involved the use of explosives. Limestone is now extracted from the quarry by literally ripping it out of the ground.

Limestone Manufacturing Equipment

The basic processing steps in limestone production line are as following:

SBM provides complete series of limestone manufacturing equipment for sale including drilling and blasting machine, crushing plant, conveying system, screening plant etc.

Limestone Grinding Mill

The crushed limestone is extracted from storage and transported by conveyor to the raw grinding mills where water is added for grinding. Based on the silica content of the raw material, it is sometimes necessary to add sand in the grinding process. This process is called wet grinding; the aim of which is to reduce the material size from 25 mm to 90 micron. The resulting mixture of limestone, water and sand resembles a thick soup, which is called slurry.

Other types of grinding mill applied includes ball mill, vertical mill, high pressure mill, trapezium mill, ultrafine mill etc.

Limestone Productin Line

The heart of a lime plant is the kiln. The prevalent type of kiln is the rotary kiln, accounting for about 90 percent of all lime production in the United States. This kiln is a long, cylindrical, slightly inclined, refractory-lined furnace, through which the limestone and hot combustion gases pass countercurrently.

Coal, oil, and natural gas may all be fired in rotary kilns. Product coolers and kiln feed preheaters of various types are commonly used to recover heat from the hot lime product and hot exhaust gases, respectively.
